
BOYS BASKETBALL
Bloom-Carroll 61, Liberty Union 22: The Bulldogs jumped out to a 18-5 first-quarter lead and led 37-13 at halftime in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the host Lions.
Jared Rose led the Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0), Evan Dozer finished with 17, Michael Whitcraft had 11 and Michael Malone chipped in nine points.
Jackson Brown led the Lions (1-3, 1-1) with nine points.
Millersport 50, Berne Union 49: The Lakers held off the Rockets in the fourth quarter in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.
Millersport led 24-20 at halftime and held a 36-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Trey Johnston led the Lakers with 17 points, Jordan Ross finished with 14 and Michael Levacy added 10 points.
Brae Friesner led the Rockets with 19 points, Sammy Amnah had 10 points and Dylan Winkler chipped in eight points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Groveport 47, Lancaster 41: The Lady Gales came up short in the Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division loss to the visiting Cruisers.
Berne Union 56, Miller 14: The Rockets jumped out to a 25-1 first-quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win.
Sophia Kline led the Rockets with 16 points, Abbi Evans finished with 12 points, Mina Gronbach added nine points and Baylee Mirgon chipped in six points.
SWIMMING
Lancaster cruises in dual meets: Lancaster traveled to Zanesville to participate in a series of dual swim meets and the Golden Gales’ boys team kept their strong start to the season and remained undefeated at 8-0. First place finishes went to Jack Hensley in the 200 IM in 2:11.28 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.56. Colin Kelly won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.57 and the 500 freestyle in 5:48.47 dropping 14 seconds off his seed time.
Josh Murdocl won the 100 fly in 1:04.52. Second place finishes went to David Geier in the 100 breaststroke, Will McMasters in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Camden Morris in the 100 freestyle and Murdock in the 200 freestyle. In the duals, Lancaster topped Barnesville, 73-12, Zanesville, 80-4, Tri-Valley, 65-28, John Glenn, 78-9 and Belmont Local, 75-10.
The Lady Gales had a strong night at Zanesville going 3-1. They defeated Zanesville, 56-20, Barnesville, 52-36, Belmont Local, 56-28 and lost to Tri-Valley, 51-43.
Mia Hensley won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.49 and 100 freestyle in 59.15. Amelia Robertson won the 200 IM in 2:36.34 and the 100 backstroke in 1:11.29. Second place finishes went to Marleen Byers in the 100 breaststroke and Kendall Cox in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
In a meet at the Union County YMCA against Marysville and Fairbanks, the Lancaster boys won by finishing with 81 points, followed by Marysville (67) and Fairbanks (8).
It was an impressive night for freshmen Jack Hensley and Will McMasters with both finishing first in multiple races. Hensley, McMasters, Josh Murdock and David Geier started the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:49.95. Hensley then won the 200 freestyle in 1:59.37, dropping seven seconds off his seed time. He then won the 500 freestyle in 5:27.30 dropping 18 seconds off his seed time.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Hensley, Collin Kelly, Murdock and Zach Kette won in 3:56.76. McMasters won the 100 butterfly in 58.43 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.19. Murdock won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.09 and dropped three seconds off his seed time.
The Lady Gales (49) placed second behind Marysville (88) and ahead of Fairbanks (27). Kendall Cox won the 200 freestyle in 2:27.45 dropping 20 seconds off her seed time. Mia Hensley won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.42. The 100 freestyle was won by Amelia Robertson in 1:05.20. Dropping times for the Lady Gales were Marleen Byers in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle and Gracie Stuart in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle.
